Before pitching a story to us, be sure to read a variety of the articles in our magazine so you can tailor your pitches to meet our content needs.  We reject many of the queries we receive because the subject matter in no way matches what we're looking for.  (Unsolicited pitch or story ideas will not receive notification.  If you have not heard from us after sending in an unsolicited submission within 12-16 weeks then we do not have a need for that particular article at this time.)

We look for positive and enlightening journalism; we leave the negative press to the daily tabloids or news media.  We feature articles on business topics, advice, information, news and profiles of specific business owners that our readers would find helpful and of interest.  There needs to be a compelling reason to write about a subject.  We want to know as much as we can about the topic of discussion being profiled and covered in our magazine.

We're seeking stories that are inspiring, funny, innovative, mesmerizing, entertaining, professional, informative, interesting and overall enjoyable experience for our readers.  For instance, you can write about a particular current event or trend and how it is affecting business today.  We are looking for the women-specific content that will appeal to our close to 2 million readers and growing.  This includes articles from the following areas:  finance, business, medical, marketing, health, design, well being, architecture, technology, entertainment, fashion, social & business networking, advertising, real estate, music, communications, ECO conscious topics, insurance, legal, fitness, beauty and so much more.  Take a look at our past issues to get an idea of some of the areas of coverage.  The articles should be written in a voice that appeals specifically to women.

Submission Guidelines

  • Please send all queries for articles only via e-mail to pitchw2wb@gmail.com . Allow a minimum of 16 weeks for a response--no phone calls, please.  If we are interested in your story idea we will contact you.
  • Woman2Woman Business LLC assumes no responsibility for unsolicited manuscripts or photos.

Once You Receive an Assignment...
You will receive a one page contract outlining the terms of your agreement, along with assignment details and any other materials that you might need in writing your article.  Please sign the one page contract and return it as soon as possible.

Before you begin working on your article, read through the following guidelines carefully:

  • We encourage our writers to make themselves the "authority" on a given topic, without talking down to readers or patronizing them.  We want you to sound experienced, so you can give our readers profound advice that will lead them in the right direction.  At the same time, you should almost always, unless otherwise specified, speak with experts who can comment on an issue, trend or idea; this lends credibility to the articles.  Where appropriate, you should also interview real experts in the field you are writing about, but always clear them with your editor first to ensure we haven't written about the material before and that they are sound resources for the article.
  • You may include ages of any people in your article (if deemed appropriate), and be sure to include a mix of women from different parts of the country or even globally.  If the article isn't about a specific industry, include different types of businesses; don't just talk to one type of business.
  • Use your best judgment when choosing and talking to experts.  If one expert doesn't answer your questions to your satisfaction or if you question their advice, please find another expert to interview.  Always make sure that your sources, expert or otherwise, know upfront that being interviewed doesn't guarantee they will appear in the final version of the article.  You may submit the article and there part is edited out.
  • Keep your tone interesting and approachable.  Be creative; it can be challenging to hold a reader's interest, so you don't want to lose them before they finish the first paragraph.  Use humor in your articles when appropriate.
  • Include lists of additional resources or other information that can be presented in a visually inventive way to break up the text.  While writing, include bulleted/numbered lists where appropriate; this also helps to keep the reader's interest.
  • Never send your completed article to a source.
  • Please be sure to first proofread your article before submission.  There is nothing worse than a slew of typo's on a first article submission.
  • Please include a working headline and brief synopsis.  These should be straightforward, for instance:  Advertising on the Cheap: Increase your promotional efforts without losing the farm.  Synopsis:  Increasing your revenue return by advertising alternatives that will save you money.
  • Provide a brief bio about yourself (along with a website URL) for inclusion at the end of your article as a byline.  Depending on whether you are a Level 1, 2 or 3 writer make sure that your byline follows the restrictions of your specified Level.

Note:  The last two guidelines below need to be added if appropriate for the article and you have all of the information.  Send in what you have and we will use the information where it fits the articles specs.

  • Include the following information:  full names and titles of all individuals mentioned and/or quoted in the article; complete names, brief descriptions and locations (city and state) of all companies, organizations or associations mentioned (including Inc., Corp., LLC, etc.); the year a company was founded (include month if it was within the past year); current annual sales of companies; and street prices of any products mentioned.  Include as much of this background information as deemed appropriate for the context of your article.
  • Include contact names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and website URLs for all sources used in the article.  This includes any statistical information or information from studies or surveys.  Always send copies of any backup material (press releases, reports, etc.) you used in researching the article.  You should also fact check with your sources: Double check spellings of names, companies, dates, sales figures and any other factual information used in the article.  You don't need to fact check quotes (and you shouldn't); just check hard facts. When you turn in your article, include written evidence that you've fact checked your information (for instance, you can e-mail your source to fact check and then forward the e-mail to your articles editor).
